Ah, yes. Such good, good memories.

If you didn't love him, you hated him. And if you hated him, you didn't understand him. And he didn't care. When he spoke he validated, for the first time, everything I thought but didn't think anybody else thought. It wasn't so much about what he taught us, it was about him being one of those characters that inspires you to think a "RIGHT ON!" shout in your head while you're sitting, smiling, waiting to hear what he's going to say next. Without the Walter experience, my college tuition would have been a sickening waste of dough.

For Walter, it was always about kicking ass. That's what he told us we were supposed to be doing. And if you weren't up for kicking ass, you misewell've dropped the class...or dropped out, full stop.

Cheers to a(really)n old friend and total asshole!
(I'll hoist one when I get home.)

Bravo, Jessica, Bravissimo!

Hermann Zapf called Walter the best printer in the world (perhaps in history?), and I've never met anyone who could dispute that. Lets just say that there is a positive side to obsession and compulsion which most of us -- lead footed clods -- will never see.

I love his response to the 'ask Nicolas' question.... Of course, what I'd like to ask Nic is can I see your library?

Walter is a national treasure. I hope he will not be offended that I say so, but I love the guy.

Bravo also Boxcar, and 10000 thanks for your new website, and for your love of printing and for your great potlatch giveaway to the community.

PS. Sadly Aikos has closed up after decades of providing the Chicago and US arts community with an amazing portal to the ancient arts of Japan. I am still in mourning.
